Just so many lists of similar things, just can’t hold my attention

DNF for me. I got about halfway through and I just can’t do it anymore. This is actually the first book I’ve ever not finished so that’s unfortunate. I cannot begin to tell you how unbelievably repetitive this book is. It got to the point where even the author knew she was repeating herself a lot by saying “one more time for the people in the back”. Like eeek we heard you the first 10 times.

There were tons of situations that I couldn’t relate to. I didn’t expect to relate to everything obviously but it was alarming how it was tailored to a specific type of person.

And lastly….was there an editor at all for this book? The amount of typos was actually unreal. SO many in addition to the constant run on sentences and poor sentence structure.

Examples:

“I have personally have spent years trying to figure out..”
(One too many haves and personally is unnecessary)

“The thing about the things”
(I just cannot)

I’m actually so mad I wasted time reading this. It was mostly fluff. Seemed like the author wanted the sentences to sound smart by throwing in a bunch of big words that just made the sentence sound off. Not a fan (: sorry!

This book is wonderful for perspective shifting - and I’ll be recommending to all my clients.  But it was fairly repetitive.  Several essays were the same thing again and again. But worth the listen despite the repetition!

So long and it was mostly lists repeating the same thing

I have opinions. Yes indeed.

- Repitition. This is a collection of her articles and essays, which makes SO much of it repetitive. Yes we know you have to CHOOSE HAPPINESS. And NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK OF US. Cutting the excess would have improved this book by like 30%.

- She clearly has some opinions that have been shaped by some past experiences. She writes a whole lot about “relationships mean being open to suffer” and “hustle culture sucks but you can only get where you want WITH BRUTAL HARD WORK”

- Did you see all those font changes in this review. Annoying? Well the book does the same thing without any reason, so if you will pick this up, be ready to have your lenses growing and shrinking endlessly.

- I have absolutely picked up some banger information and lines I will take into my life and my notebooks. I can see why people see this as very influential in their lives. It is a young person who also uses fancy sources. The hype just did not come to fruition for me.

Hard to take in all at once

Good book! I think there’s something for everyone. Some essays I wasn’t a fan of, but I’d say majority of them I thoroughly enjoyed. I didn’t like the lists as I’d rather read actual essays. I’m some ways this book reminds me of a compilation of tumblr quotes….in a good way ;D.
reflective slow-paced

It felt a bit self indulgent in a waffly, holier-than-thou way. Problem is, there were aome good points made.

Couldn’t finish because it was boring. A typical self-help book, very repetitive.
