There’s some good stuff in here for sure, but this book could’ve been condensed because the messages were pretty repetitive. Another reviewer compared it to calendars’ “quote of the day” and that’s really what it gives.
reflective tense slow-paced

Die Essays sind sehr langatmig und repetativ.
Weiß nicht, was daran mein Leben großartig verändern soll. Die meisten Sachen im Buch sind selbstverständlich und offensichtlich. Einige machen keinen Sinn. Einige widersprechen sich sogar.
Im Großen und Ganzen würde ich das Buch niemandem empfehlen.

Where do I start? 🤔

I have only one thing to say: If you haven’t read this book, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life. Cos’ damn!

Brianna Wiest doesn’t hold back. No sugarcoating, just raw truths that had me enthralled from start to finish. More than once, I caught myself getting called out on my own BS. Fair to say these are definitely essays that can change the way you think.

At some point, I became one of these self-affirming Gen Zs on podcasts going “mmmmm,” “yeahhhh,” and “mmm mmm” 😅

This book is so timely and necessary.

I listened to the audiobook, but I’m definitely getting a physical copy—this one’s worth revisiting. I have actually begun relistening.

I know this is not one of my usual “serious” reviews but trust me, there isn’t anything more to say than GET A COPY!

If you’re looking for “quote-a-day calendar” vibes, this book is for you. The title led me to believe I’d be reading a variety of deeply moving personal essays that would challenge my perspective on life, love, etc. In actuality, the majority of the essays are excessive lists that read like vague, unsubstantiated psychobabble from Wiest who positions herself as an authority on self-help—“You must do…, You need to…” (Check her credentials...) On more than one occasion, she literally asks the reader to see beyond what she is sharing as “abstract platitudes” and “non-sensical platitudes.” Sure, there are thought-provoking ideas and questions intended to give the reader much to reflect on, but it’s all thrown at you in such a trite, didactic style, I almost DNF to spare myself from the bore/chore of getting through it. Maybe I was expecting more of a pleasure read when it felt more like a reference manual? Don’t get me wrong, much of her material is age old wisdom and I don’t disagree with it, I was just expecting something quite different and not a fan of her delivery.
