Michelle Elman tells you the story of her life through many hospital visits and her journey towards loving her body. Having known about her before kind of changes the way I read her book in a positive manner. I found it easy to relate to her journey and found her journey to body positivity similar to others but also her own.

I hardly ever listen to audiobooks because I find it hard to keep track of the story line but the narrator of this book is great to listen to. The narrator fits the story quite well and doesn't take away from the book. This was something I was able to listen to on my commute to places and as I was doing other things at home.

I love how she discusses the ways that media and others had an impact on how she viewed her body. Rather than skirting around some of the difficult issues such as eating disorders, mental illness, and medical problems she addresses them head on. She tells you her feelings that surround these issues and how they impact her life and her relationships with others. I love how she talks about her experiences in boarding school and how others treated her for her surgeries and her weight.

It’s not often that I actually write a review of a book, but this one certainly deserves one. This is an excellent memoir. Having personal experience with childhood illness, hospital stays, ICU, and both the mental and physical scars that come with them, I found this book to be a perfectly honest portrayal of how surviving feels like a weight in its own right. Most of all I found it a beautiful story of overcoming the weights and limitations imposed upon us, by ourselves, others, or simply life itself. A must read, and a book I will certainly be recommending to many!

Incredible. Raw. Honest. Painful. Beautiful. I sobbed through the last two chapters. I know I’ll be re-reading this many times in my life. Infinitely grateful this book exits.

This book was super easy to read and full of such personal details that engages you and takes you on her journey. This was truly an amazing book that makes you realize how much you are worth as an individual. Our society is programmed to keep us thinking we are not important unless we have the "ideal body", but Michelle makes you realize how important you really are regardless of what you look like. Highly, highly recommend.

I have been following Michelle for a few years now and so I really enjoyed reading her book and learning more about her background. She has faced so many adversities, whether its with her health problems or at school/university. I read the book in one day, her writing style is so easy to follow and her humour shines through her work. The book doesn’t touch that much on body positivity or fat acceptance but its sort of a background theme throughout.

Onerous. Slow. Didn’t get anywhere.
