The history itself is interesting, but the way its told , not so much.

The first part is kinda boring, and most of the stuff that the protagonist tells us are kinda irrelevant.

All the time is saying names of places, places that I don't know and can't put in a map, so I don't get transported to the world. In that sense, I don't think you feel like you are there.

The second part is a bit more interesting, and the tension is higher, but it lacks something, I don't know exactly what.

Its a classic because its one of the first books of its genre, but I don't think it is a good book.

✍️ never eat in england, got it

Uncanny, prescient, and lots of fun. Unbelievable this was written over 100 years ago. Every sci fi book I’ve read so far has been knocked down a peg, just as lotr did to my beloved Harry Potter. I will always hope to be an artilleryman, but may have to confront the fact that I’m only a curate.

A solid base for many of our invasion stories, this is considered a classic among SciFi readers. I can definitely see the impact and influence it had on much my favorite (and not so favorite) media of the 20th and 21st century. I actually happen to like the longer winded sentences and paragraphs of classic novels, but I dislike when you can tell that it was serialized. This wasn't a problem when reading other works from the same time period, but something about this style for this particular story didn't do it for me. Perhaps it was the fact that we don't get the point of view from the brother, who serves as the second protagonist, when it really could have been better formatted for it to be a recounted tale between the two of them rather than just MC spewing his account to the reader. All in all, it has some magnificent scenes and still poignant philosophical questions, but the format and pacing just didn't let the story itself live up to its legendary hype.
I also kept count of new words learned from this book and, on average, I learned 1 new word per chapter, for a total of 27 new words acquired! This book was read/typed using typelit.io
