An exhaustingly thorough recounting of Oppenheimer’s life, I certainly came away learning much. The convenient formatting and engaging writing make for an easier read than one would expect given the subject matter.

Beautifully written, detailed and comprehensive biography of a complex and captivating human.

Exemplified by a quote I took from the very introduction: “That they [Oppenheimer’s left leaning sympathies - primarily based on a moral reaction to human suffering] were so easily used to silence his voice a decade later is a reminder of how delicately balanced are the democratic principles we profess, and how carefully they must be guarded.”

Incredibly researched but just too long / slow / dense for my taste. Also leaned a little more on direct quotes and sections of mini-biographies of other people than I personally enjoy. I think you've got to be a hardcore biography reader for this one... maybe I'll try again one day.
