A doozie of physics, cruel politics, and the Manhattan project. Fascinating.
“The agony and humiliation that Oppenheimer endured in 1954 were not unique during the McCarthy era. But as a defendant, he was incomparable. He was America’s Prometheus, “the father of the atomic bomb,” who had led the effort to wrest from nature the awesome fire of the sun for his country in time of war.”
This is an incredibly thorough well researched biography and that may merit its five star rating alone, but let me praise the man that inspired such a behemoth for a moment. Dr. Robert Oppenheimer was a strange dude. A beautifully strange, complicated genius that gave us everything that was in his power to give, good and bad. He was not perfect. He was a human being. Infallible and remarkable, he did not deserve what he was put through. Thank you for your service Oppie.

so good,,, very fun first foray into audio books
very thoroughly and quite well written - a surprising amount of content regarding the communist accusations and resulting harassment from the government etc. absolutely infuriating and tragic by the end.
