I was so excited for this book. Time-travel is something I love in theory but every book I've read with it so far has disappointed me. Sadly this book was no different. Pim Wangtechawat is a good writer but I was so bored. The book moved at a snail's pace and I didn't find myself connecting with any of the characters. If I didn't have a book I'm looking forward to reading on hold in Libby I might be inclined to finish this but for right now it's not in the stars.

Elements of this were very compelling and I feel like I can see what was intended with the focus on grief, loss, etc. The constant hopping between timelines and generally nebulous sense of the story means that there's never really any resolution for any threads, which I can't help but feel a bit disappointed with. Why did I spend all this time reading about people, most of whom I didn't hugely care for? I feel like I'm missing something in the final few chapters!
The writing is very lyrical, but I struggled to really get the free verse sections. They just read to me like standard sentences formatted like poetry rather than actually poetic, if that makes sense!

poignant prose and engaging plot.

the scenes depicting joshua and his 嫲嫲 made me tear up.

the ending also had a sense of coming full circle which i loved (even if i wished the loose ends were tied up better).

overall, a beautiful story of a dysfunctional time-travelling family
