Not science fiction, but science-y fiction.
I feel like I was just whipped through an incredible rollercoaster of science facts, history lesson, magical realism, dark psychology, philosophy, literature, and hallucinogens honestly. What a ride. At first I wanted to fact check all the things, but at some point I just leaned into the blending of fact and fiction and it turned out to be immensely captivating and satisfying.
The writing is straight up beautiful and it feels almost like a love letter to math and science, which I'm all for. Some of it was a little out there for me, but other parts gave me the shivers.
Side note: it was super interesting reading this shortly after Three Body Problem, as they have some overlap in terms of existential questions brought on by science and technology, pushing the limits of our understanding, and societal breakdown, but very different ways of presenting them.
