I’m biased because I love this series. This was my least favorite of the series because there were hardly any scene with the actual book club, which was my favorite part of the others. I enjoyed reading about what the men discussed in their club and how to work through gender roles and expectations. This book really had none of that, if anything it encouraged gender roles. Additionally, any time the book club tried to give the main male character advice, it didn’t really go anywhere. I wasn’t a fan of how they immediately fell for each other then abruptly got engaged at the end in the midst of an argument.

Overall, the writing is great and keeps me engaged. I love the characters and their development and the ties from past books.

“No ones hates Christmas. They hate their own Christmases. If you hope to start something with Gretchen, don’t fuck it up by confusing the two.”

Very late on the holiday romance train I know, but the person who checked this out from the library before me was a Scrooge and didn’t return it on time -_-

Everytime Adams introduces heavier subject matter into her stories I get nervous, because these are decidedly NOT dark books, and I have encountered very few authors who can write “frothy” romance that give real-life issues their proper weight without coming off as pandering. 5 books in and I should have known that I was in safe hands though.
Gretchen, an immigration attorney, is weighed down by guilt at the chasm between her uber-wealthy, awful family, and the financial and legal needs of her clients. Colton is a country music star whose (unfounded) fear of falling back into poverty is driving him to resent the career he used to love. Gretchen builds walls to ignore her issues, Colton showers his friends in love and good times to hide his. Together, they make a perfect grumpy x sunshine trope, with some VERY assertive bedroom sparks thrown in for spice.

This continues to be one of the most solid romance series out there, and even if the pool of characters is getting a little too big and I forget who’s with who, each book ends up feeling like unwrapping a gift with your friends and family gathered round.

Read if You Like:
  1. Cheese puns
  2. The “I’ll go to the mat for u against your family” trope
  3. Being bossed around in all areas of life ;)

This is another sweet installment of The Bromance Bookclub with some heavier material with character backstory and their present. It is my favorite of the five stories so far.

Even though I didn't like the characters that much, the writing was so good that by the end I enjoyed it.
