Phenomenal! That is the only word needed to describe this book. I had read some really good reviews on this book and decided to pick it up. The reviews did not lie. I got swept up into this book and oils not put it down.
I immediately picked up and read book 2 as well since the book was so good.

I really enjoyed this one. There's a lot going on and I think later in the series some of the themes and goals of the book get muddled. But here in book one we have a ton of fun. Mira is smart, sassy, curious, and energetic. The Shadow Beast is just available enough to be an interesting eventual love interest. I really loved the slow burn in book 1 (though it drags a bit later on) and I loved learning more about the larger realms.

The worldbuilding is wonderful. The Mera and Shadow Beast are fine, the other characters need a lot of work and the overall plot is a little confusing.

This is far and away the best of Eve's work. The one thing that's mildly confusing is that she has these setups for spin-offs that read like an eventual RH. There is only one pairing, no RH here folks.

Warning cliffhanger is a cliff hanger

I normally avoid books with cliffhanger but thought that since the description warned us about it, it’s wouldn’t be that bad. I was wrong. I go so invested with these characters I have to know what happens next!

I was honestly shocked by how much I loved this book! Love the characters and the lore of the world. Can’t wait to start book 2. So glad I thought ahead and ordered it a while ago.

I thought I would read this to see what all the fuss is about. This series is for NA crowd.

Its not for me- with the heroine Mera having such a young voice, its really hard for me to connect. It reminds me of the Curse of the Gods trilogy that Jaymin did with Jane Washington, they covered so many issues and deities and Greek gods and Creators, oh my. SO MUCH, too much.

Sometimes less is more, right? This story has way too much (story trajectory and mystery) going on, and its the 1st book. Its a gift to be able to write stories and I appreciate them, but sometimes you don't have to throw in the kitchen sink. And Mera is super concerned about her virginity for some reason- it keeps coming up in topic and is a bit annoying.

I expected the "rejection" to hurt more, like they had been romantic and then he turns on her. But no, she has always hated him and had more romantic feelings for the Beta, Jaxson. So that is confusing and not as emotionally connecting. And the whole female empowerment is exhausting. "Don't tell me what to do" says Mera, to pretty much everyone. So yeah, its a young book with lots of sass and energy.

And of course, we want her to be with Shadow, but now that Mera isn't human or shifter but a special snowflake, what ever will they do? I for one do not feel excited enough to find out. Not continuing the series.
