I really enjoyed this book. I am not sure why but I went in thinking it would be a modern destroyer rather than a WWII destroyer. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I could see reading this entire series. I had read Weapons of Choice by John Birmingham earlier in the year and I think thats why I thought this would be a more modern ship. I do not want to make any declarations about which one I liked better right after finishing one. But they are both well worth reading.

The author was a bit too technical with the Navy/ship jargon, but the story itself was good. I wish it was resolved, instead of being spread out through 7 books(so far). Too many authors are doing this now.

Notes:

A little slow to get going but there's a lot of spunk & interesting ideas set up for the series.

Very good start to this series. Recommended.

This is a real good read while waiting for an ILL to show up. I'm not going to drop off and grab the next one because my ILL should be in. But while waiting it's a good series to get. The premise is cool, the bad dinosaurs are bad, Velociraptors with bigger brains, the good Lemurians are cool and some are bad ass. The destroyer crew has the standard compliment of normal sailors, even though they are stereotyped; the cussing Chief, the Marine Gunny, the Phillopeno mess attendant, and a love interest for the Captain in a stranded in Java Navy Nurse. Good yarn.

That moment when one player reaches the industrial age and brings out the big guns before anybody else.

Light Sci-fi with the expected characters. Writing isn't the best but still enjoyable. I'd give it a half star if I could.
