This was a beautiful and heartbreaking read about the bad and painful side of humanity, suffering, our conscious and so much more.

O livro é fragmentado e passa a dor e a melancolia da revolta popular na Coréia.
O livro é lento, descreve os traumas de quem sofreu na guerra e faz pensar sobre os atos nada humanos cometidos por um regime totalitário.
Triste e marcante.

It too me a while to understand Han Kang’s writing and fully appreciate it. I first read the vegetarian and I was appalled by the fact that we never got the vegetarian’s perspective and only the people who doubted her and abused her. However, as I read human acts I began to understand why. Both books explore very different ideas and events. Yet, they talk about a person’s will, cruelty done to them, care and love given to them, and how the fight for autonomy for the body and soul are the same.

Wow, I learnt something I didn't know much of "The Gwangju Uprising in S. Korea", and it was so beautifully written, there's a particularly spectacular chapter that will leave me thinking about it for a long time to come. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the Epilogue's interweaving timeline was confusing to follow.

I really enjoy learning about historical events through fiction, and if it's through the lenses of silenced voices even better.
This book falls into this category of stories, telling a very cruel and sad period of time of South Korea's memory.
Sadly, I didn't mesh well with the author's writing style, which made it hard to understand some parts of the book. She writes very beautifully but the stream of consciousness narration flew past me (I wish I would have enjoyed it).
