Yay! A super fun and summery thriller, this book was just what I needed! I’ve never read this author before, but I’ve seen her books around. Thrillers tend to be hit or miss for me because they can get so outlandish and unrealistic. I’m also not a fan of the rich people be behaving badly trope. So going into this one I was a little nervous, but I ended up really liking it!
I liked this book because the characters seemed very realistic. Do a trio of friends all own lake houses? Yes, but they were real people with real people problems. This was not the rich people behaving badly trope that I so desperately dislike. *Breathes a sigh of relief*.
I enjoyed the pacing of this one as well, the beginning third built up the characters, their history together, and their relationships. And then things started getting kind of suspicious, and it just built from there. There were some fun twists, but again, nothing too outlandish. overall, this was a nicely balanced thriller of characters, plot, and setting. I will most likely try to read another one of her thrillers before this summer is over!
I received a free audio copy of The Lake Escape from the publisher and exchange for my honest review, all opinions are my own.

This is a perfect twisty summer read. I love domestic suspense, and Jamie Day is such a talented author. This book had well developed characters and twists I didn’t see coming. The setting was so detailed and the lake itself was so integral to the story.
For decades, Julia, Erika and David have been spending summers together at the same lake in Vermont. This lake has a history. Women have disappeared in this lake, thirty years apart, never to be seen again. When David’s girlfriend goes missing exactly thirty years after the previous woman, his friends (and nanny) start to ask questions.
I listened to the audio and was really impressed. The dual perspectives really came alive with the different narrators.
Thank you Macmillan Audio, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARCs.

I didn't really care for this mystery from Jamie Day. Even though it was only told from two characters' points of view, there were far too many storylines. And the 'twists' were so ridiculous and unbelievable. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

The Lake Escape is a suspenseful summer thriller set against the eerie beauty of a Vermont lake. Lifelong friends Julia, Erika, and David find their annual retreat shattered when David’s girlfriend mysteriously disappears.
Expertly weaving secrets, tension, and multiple perspectives, Day builds an immersive mystery. The pacing is brisk, and the lake itself feels like a haunting presence. The emotional stakes and twists keep the reader engaged.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jamie Day, and Macmillan Audio for the ALC of this book.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Macmillan Audio so much for this Advanced Listener Copy. Wow, definitely lots of twists and turns - that this brilliant author somehow tied up perfectly in the end. I did think the first half-ish of the book dragged a bit, but by the end I was hooked and didn’t want to stop listening. This book gave me vibes of a mix between “Listen for the Lie” and “A good girls guide to murder”.
I definitely recommend, you’ll love it!

Julia, David, and Erika grew up spending summers as neighbors at Lake Timinee in Vermont. As adults, they've raised their children there, too. But things are off this summer. David has built a massive house of glass blocking the others' views of the lake; his new nanny, Izzy, and his girlfriend, Fiona, seem to be at odds; and Julia and Erika have secrets of their own. Then Fiona goes missing...just like a woman has every thirty years.
I love books with lots of juicy secrets, and Jamie Day has created a fun one with a perfect summer setting in this story.

With an atmospheric setting in Vermont, this missing persons drama has a hint of local folklore (which, honestly, I would’ve loved reading more about), and started out so strong.
When a group a friends comes together just like they have every summer before, it already starts on a bummer note because one of them has renovated his home to block the lake views.
Conjecture about this goes on for a few chapters, but you know, eventually, hopefully, there’s going to be more to the story than just a petty argument.
Turns out the lake itself holds a mysterious past. Two women vanished thirty years ago, never to be found. So when the renovated home guy’s girlfriend goes missing, everyone is suspicious and a suspect.
The story is told from different perspectives, and unfortunately, Izzy’s chapters were juvenile and distracting. Yes, she’s only 19, but her observations made me start to lose interest, with less feelings of suspense and more like inflated teenage drama.
