I received a free audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review, so here it is:
This book was entertaining enough to keep me listening, and it was well written—no doubt about that. But the plot just didn’t go anywhere. The suspense never really landed, and the conclusion felt like a shrug instead of a punch.
It wasn’t bad—definitely a solid 3 stars—but it didn’t leave a lasting impression either. I wanted more twists, more tension, more something. As it stands, Lake Escape was a smooth ride to a forgettable destination.
pretty enjoyable read for the majority but tanked its rating with the ridiculous climatic scene. fully almost DNF’d with 8% left. also not sure if i missed it when i was skimming the last chunk but i don’t think we ever found out why fiona kissed the teenage boy which just makes it a weird red herring that was dismissed a chapter later.

Started out a bit a slow, and had a lot of characters which made it harder to follow along at first with the audiobook. The pace definitely picked up at the end. I’m not a massive thriller fan so overall the book was ok for me, but I could see thriller fans enjoying this. It was well written, and the narrators did a good job with how many characters they had to voice.

Jamie Day does it again, providing us with another suspenseful summer read that had me hooked from the beginning. An atmospheric thriller, "The Lake Escape" unravels a mystery that has surrounded a lakeside Vermont town as a woman goes missing, exactly 30 years after another woman went missing, and 60 years after another woman before her.
This was an engrossing mystery-thriller that I wish I got to read while relaxing on a lake.
I read the book while also listening to the audiobook, narrated by Lisa Larsen and Phoebe Strole. Both did a great job depicting their characters, as the story is told through a dual POV. I highly recommend this book and audiobook.
Thankyou NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Macmillan Audio for the arc. All opinions are my own.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the eARC of The Lake Escape—a new release that pulled me in when I finally had time to sit down with it.
I’m not fully out of my reading slump, but once I hit the halfway mark, I flew through the rest. The slow start was less about the book and more about life getting in the way. When I could focus, I remembered why I enjoyed Jamie Day’s writing so much.
I loved One Big Happy Family and had high hopes for this one. While I didn’t love it quite as much, it still delivered on what Jamie Day does best—twisty plots, messy friendships, and a whole lot of secrets. At one point it felt like a lot was happening all at once and I did lose track of things a bit, but it came back together in a way that worked for me.
Julia was just as fiery as I expected, and I knew Izzy had more going on than just an interest in lake lore. The ending and epilogue were super satisfying, with the epilogue itself being so uniquely done.
All in all, a solid summer thriller with layered characters and drama that kept me turning the pages once I found my groove.

A perfect summer beach mystery read. Three women, 30 years apart, have disappeared from Lake Timmeny in Vermont. Three friends, Julia, David and Erika grew up, summering on the lake with their respective families. As adults they all come back to the lake for a two week vacation. They are all well aware of the local legend “the lake takes”. The story is told from two points of view, Julia and the nanny, Izzy. Fast paced thriller.
