This is a pretty short book. The title story is a novella-length work, there's a handful of very short stories in the middle (some less than a page), and Through the Ether rounds out the collection.

I liked The Altar In The Hills. It's set in the remote New England world of e.g. [b:The Dunwich Horror|63213|The Dunwich Horror and Others|H.P. Lovecraft|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1341605187l/63213._SY75_.jpg|5249329] and features a few familiar names and places such as Albert Wilmarth and Miskatonic University. The story felt like it could have been written by [a:H.P. Lovecraft|9494|H.P. Through The Ether is written as an excerpt from the diary of Nicola Tesla. I'm a big fan of Tesla and this was an OK story, but the ending felt a little off. It reminded me a little of the movie Devil's Advocate.
