Hard to comment on a novel written two centuries ago avoiding all the present time bias, and so many of the details that made this novel an immortal literature masterpiece I found them overrated. However, the many layers of each character, the setting, the structure of the novel and the high peak of the prose made this an extremely good read, sometimes hard to follow, but still worth every minute of your time.
Despite the dreadful characters (they're stupid, selfish, mean, naive or all of the above), I was completely absorbed by the plot. It must be a huge talent to be able to write a book without a single likeable character and still engross your readers in the story.
I was a little hesitant to add this book to my 'romance' shelf, since I would argue that Wuthering Heights is not a love story at all. In fact, I think that (true, selfless) love had very little to do with Heathcliff and Catherine's relationship. While the plot seems to focus on their relationship and the repercussions of it, only the first half of the book narrates their story. I think this book is about how impressionable people are and how they might grow to become exactly what people say they are or according to how they are treated.

I found the book easy to read (although I skipped most of Joseph's sentences and tried to make out what they meant from the context), even though English is not my first language. I would have never gotten around to reading this book if a friend hadn't given it to me, but I'm so happy I finally got to read this classic, it's a new favourite.
