I feel like most people, me included before reading, think of Wuthering Heights as an epic love story when it’s actually not. In reality it’s a profound exploration of humanity and desire. Desire for love, desire for vengeance. Heathcliff is not a misunderstood Mr. Darcy prototype, nor is Catherine your typical lovable heroine, and I feel like most negative reviews of the Bronte masterpiece expect them to be so. I get it, I myself enjoy Austen better, but this isn’t trying to be that. It’s dark, and tragic, desperate and all consuming, and beautiful for it.
