So this is a really interesting concept. I won't lie and say that I love social media, we all do, but there's no doubt that some people go through some great lengths in order to gain something from it. Some want fame, glory, free products or money. Others want all of the above. There's nothing wrong with with any of these things, but there comes a point when you need to take a step back and reflect on what certain influencers are trying to promote. With that in mind, I feel like this book had a case of right idea with a bad execution. There were a few grammar mistakes, which really doesn't bother me as much, but then there were also cases in which names kept getting changed and that was a little weird.

The format took some getting used to since it's a podcast/script format. But I think it would work well as an audiobook. Overall while this book wasn't necessarily for me I know there will be people who enjoy it

EDIT: The author reached out about the grammar issues and errors in this book which shows they really listen to readers so it's something I truly appreciate

A gripping psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. Fyre Festival was a hot mess, and I love mess, and The Hunger Games clearly has a grip on my generation, so of course I jumped at a book advertised as a mashup of them.

First I would like to say that Kyle Rutkin has dedication, passion and the utmost love for his work. Halfway through this, I received an email about updating my download and that errors had been correct and earlier comments taken to heart to rework some things.

The format of this novel was definitely different as it is read like a podcast script as a reporter attempts to determine what happened on the island and the mystery behind the organizer and their involvement in the deaths of the celebrities. However, the mystery itself is interesting and the celebrities are just as unlikable as you would assume by the title and the influencer stereotype.

A quick read for those that also love mess and mystery, Influencer Island is easy to binge poolside or in the downtime between your favorite true crime podcast's latest episodes.

Thank you for the ARC of Influencer Island!

Wow, no one saw this review coming. In the first 100 pages, I said this book had 5 star potential.

Unfortunately after this the book went downhill. The actual action scenes were far too quick (I felt like we went from 10 contestants to 2 in about 10 pages?) and I found that having multiple mysteries was too much to take on in less than 200 pages.

A good premise, but didn’t feel finished.

Also just a note, an easy way to alienate some of the book-influencer community is to thank booktok and bookstagram.

Influencer Island is a book about internet Influencers and dark art. There is more than one mystery at its core.

First of all, I love the podcast format of the book! I love podcasts and while reading the book, I had a different voice in my head for each person. Give me all the podcast books!

Cal is the main podcast narrator and his podcast is about a game called Influencer Island hosted by the mysterious artist Wyatt James where Influencer will be competing to gain followers. This brings up the question: How far would you go to gain millions of followers? Throughout the book, we are unraveling clues to who Wyatt James actually is and what happened to Tuck who is another main character, Carrie's, brother.

This is a fast-paced book that piqued my interest from the very beginning. There is a lot of suspense and plenty of gore. This book really hits home during a time when most of the world is competing for online followers through all the different platforms and while being a dark thriller/horror book, it's also a bit of social commentary. This one is definitely worth checking out!

If you loved Squid Games then you will love this book!

This book has a fairly unique storytelling style and is told in the format of a podcast and it’s definitely worth the risk of writing in this style as it works really well. For me it was almost like reading the transcript of a crime documentary.

So what if your life actually depended on likes and followers? Well, welcome Influencer Island where having the most likes and follows will save your life. How far would you go to be famous?

A group of top influencers are invited to an exclusive island plus another 10 wannabe influencers competing to be chosen to attend a mysterious competition held on this island by a mysterious artist, Wyatt James. But it soon becomes apparent that things are quickly turning dark.

I read the bit saying that “Due to the graphic nature of the novel, 18+ are recommended.” and got quite excited, however it isn’t that graphic, it’s on the same level gore as Chris Carter, Karin Slaughter and Chelsea Cain so don’t let that bit of the book blurb to put you off reading this book.

The book is really well paced, and the writing really keeps you fully engaged from the first to the very last page. I devoured this book in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down, so I highly recommend reading Influences Island as it’s definitely one you won’t want to miss.

An easy five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read

Influencer Island will be published soon on the 30 July 2022 and is available to preorder now

A massive thank you to the author Kyle Rutkin, publishers Greater Path LLC and NetGalley for my digital acr

Influencer Island was an interesting mystery to jump into.

In the beginning, it seemed like this had some potential. With each character that we meet, the suspicious feelings start to develop. Of course, I just wanted to know how everything was going to connect before the reveals came my way. Once everything was revealed, my brain felt like it was melting. Mostly because I didn't see all of that coming out. Some, yes, but not all of it.

The island with influencers seemed kind of cool. I just don't think I fully understood what the overall statement was supposed to be. Even the villain parts of this were okay but mostly confusing. Maybe with more information I would probably understand it all a bit better. Or maybe I will just be confused even more.

In the end, it was an okay book that fizzled out towards the end.

A dark psychological thriller written in podcast form, this was unlike anything I have read before. Ten influencers are invited to an island to compete for social media glory, but all is not as it seems and is in fact far from it. The influencers go to the island expecting to take part in lighthearted competitions in the hope of winning some prize money and eternal fame. Instead, they are thrown into an evil and twisted game of life and death, hosted by an infamous celebrity artist. Influencer Island is a book written in a non-conventional format and despite its 400 pages, makes for a quick and easy read.

Influencer Island is described by the author as Frye Festival meets The Hunger Games, which is a huge claim to make. Unfortunately, I felt this description was inaccurate and leads the reader to expect something more. The podcast format makes for quick reading but this writing style made me feel disconnected to the characters and we missed a lot of information. Despite its flaws, Influencer Island is a unique psychological thriller with interesting plot twists and backstories.

Thank you to NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest review.
