2.5 Characters have intriguing backstories but little character development during the story itself.

I enjoyed this read. I don't read a lot of romance novels but this plot was interesting and the characters were believable. This is a historical romance novel set in 1700s London. The way the book reads is relatable to the time period in a sense that it doesn't read like someone telling the story with 21st century vernacular. This book is the first in a two book series however, I read them out of order and years apart. Both books read just fine independently but I was a little surprised on who, from the first book, was the main character for the second.
If you're into historical romance I would recommend this book.

I stopped reading when the "hero" actually considers raping the heroine to keep her from marrying another man.
