Kind of tedious and predictable, not at all what you expect from Deaver.

A easy read historical fiction mystery set in 1936 Berlin.

excellent - the same fast pacing as the rest of his work and a lovely, neck-snapping twist towards the end!

It's a perfect beach read, but nothing more. It is a page-turner like most well-written crime stories, but nothing more. I think the setting is pretty accurate, and you can easily image being in Berlin 36 at the time of the games.

Hitler's Germany has been fertile grounds for many a work in both the literary and the silver screen. Even though they are numerous, I have let myself onto very few of them. If someone were to ask me as to what made me pick up this book, the only answer I have would be the acquaintance with the Lincoln Rhyme series.

Upfront I would rate it to be a good entertainer of a novel. Using the backdrop of Germany in the 1930's the plot tells of an assassination attempt in the highest orders of the government. The author to his merit has the fact that the story flows very smoothly. There are no awkward poses or lengthy digressions to spoil the mood.

This being said, the initial phases of the book appear to be less thought out and go by in a haze. Fortunately this is overcome in the latter half where the action and pace seem more believable for a plot in this setting. If I were to wrap it up in a package and label it, the label would read : Average.

A pretty good thriller that's part mystery read, part espionage in the burgeoning "Nazi noir" genre. It was at times a really good, really deep read but I think the end is too rushed. I would have preferred Deaver, a good writer, to incorporate more plot points that were revealed at the end to be spread out more in the narrative. Still a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who likes the author and/or is interested in the subject.

Good mystery set in Berlin pre-WWII. It's a light read, but just what I needed in the last few weeks.
