HAHAHAHAHA this book is just insanely bad. Completely made-up and ridiculous and oh-so-'70s. I can't freaking believe that people were so gullible back then!
This was a tough book to get through. I don't know if it's because I am older or what. There was so much angst but it was also obviously written by an adult to scare kids from drugs, sex and "the O". 🙄
Beatrice Sparks' beliefs permeate her writing with all the subtlety of this:

Things I'd rather do than read more of her books:

When people realize this is the third book I read by Sparks:

Seriously, what am I doing? If I pick up one more of her books, please, I need someone to reach through their Goodreads screen like so:

I loved all of the anonymous journals. This is the last one I had to read. I had read all of the others. Man this one is bad. I couldn't even finish it. The writing does not sound like a 15/16 year old boy. It seemed more of the writing of a 13 year old girl. Seriously. Words like gee golly were used. The way he constantly said Judas instead of cursing got old. The writing is just awful is what I'm saying lol. Jay would repeat the same word a lot. Example "I have to have her. Have to! Have to! Have to!" All of these things may seem small but when it's done on almost every page you start to get annoyed
(2.5-3.) Okay, I have my doubts that this was "edited" by Beatrice Sparks. I mean, come on. No teenager writes like this, with a bunch of fancy words. And the tone is eerily similiar to "Go Ask Alice".
Probably mostly made up, but still frightened me. I couldn't sleep for at least a week after reading it.
I can't rate this book because I can't finish it. After reading all the controversy from when this book was first printed and reading the first 50 pages, I returned the book. Jay is way too childish for being the supposed genius that he is. His voice and tone are that of a 9-11 year old, not a teenager. I was really let down by this book because it could be such a warning for teens but definitely falls short.
