I was quite impressed for this being her first novel. The book kept me intrigued the entire way and felt so real at times, I shed tears. I don’t know that I quite understand the ending, nor did I anticipate it ending the way it did, but this was a good read nonetheless.
The story contains just about every domestic violence that could occur (but I am no expert thankfully) but handled not with la heavy hand or deep details. Story is told in 3 voices and is centered around a teenager killing his best friend and neighbor one ugly afternoon. The author seemed to always keep a carrot stick of redemption out for the reader to continue and not get lost in the morass of the evil.
This book grips you with the slightest, tiniest, most discreet details little by little as you progress through every chapter.
I loved it. Each little revelation guiding my attention and focus so persistently through each page.
The characters felt real, all of them. The time I spent with them felt tangible, and the emotions they felt resonated with me.
This book was awesome and I will come back to it someday I am sure of it.
Truly remarkable that it is a debut novel, and you can tell somebody put time, effort, and care into this story.

This book made me feel so heavy. Where The Crawdads Sing vibes.
could not put it down and some passages were heart breaking.
Hate this, tried to trudge through but I couldn’t take anymore. DNF at 87%. Felt like all I was reading was about animal cruelty and animal death! Ugh!
Some bad language, but a touching and memorable story.
This entire book felt like an epilogue to grief. tiny decisions, whether we rise or fall.
