Wow…. It’s been quite a while since I’ve cried that hard reading a book. Powerfully written and achingly beautiful. I would definitely recommend this book, but would also warn you to be prepared for the subject matter of grief and other traumas that the characters experience. Usually, I’m ready to start another book quickly but I need to sit with this one for a day or two before moving on.
So this book started out so good but then I started to lose interest and took almost the whole summer to finish it because I was so disengaged. I couldn’t make sense of really any of the relationships in the book and was often confused by the development of the characters. At first the mystery was promising but then I lost interest in solving it. Just not a fan!
What Comes After is an engrossing read with a little bit of mystery weaved throughout. It’s hard not to love Evangeline, Isaac, and Lorrie, and their nontraditional connections and ideas of love and family really keep the story at a great pace. I quite enjoyed this one.

I fell for it again... expecting a feral character from the "...until a mysterious, pregnant 16-year-old girl emerges out of the woods and into their lives..." book jacket.

3.5 - The middle got a little long for me, but overall decent read
Im excited to read this authors next novel- this was a 3 star for me because there was excellent character development- but- and I can’t believe I’m saying this- there were too many characters developed- the writing flowed so well- the plot line was fascinating and a little too easily snapped together- but dynamics worked well- the feeling if CommuniTy was felt-
This book was really interesting and well written, I really liked the characters. That being said, it was a bit anticlimactic overall. I still enjoyed reading about these people and the 400 pages went quickly.
A really lovely novel about community and relationships but set in a story with tremendous grief and pain.
