This collection was extremely disappointing - each of the four stories had terrific plot and character potential (To Wed the Earl in particular I would have more than happily read as a full blown novel), but they just weren't well executed. Characters were thinly drawn, instalove was a real problem in two of the four, there was a lot of telling rather than showing, and the stories simply weren't fleshed out enough to do them justice. As another reviewer has commented, they felt in places like they were barely plot outlines rather than short fiction.

Five Wicked Kisses
rating: 3.5 stars
review: it was a fun short story.

Maid for Scandal
rating: 2 stars
review: I'm not sure the title suits the story and the story itself fell a little flat. A young woman from the aristocracy pretends to be a maid to be close to a man she fancied herself in love with *eye roll*.

The Piano Tutor
rating: 3.8 stars
review: This story is one of the reasons I don't like short stories. it was really good and I devoured it in no time. I wanted more, more time to see and feel the romance develop, I wanted to know more about them, their past.

To Wed an Earl
rating: 4 stars
review: Oh, I really liked this story. It was so very intriguing and full of excitement. I liked the characters a lit. in short I really liked this story.

I agree with the other reviews that said that these read like outlines for full novels. I think the author has some promise and that I might like her writing, but that these novellas were too short to give the great premises a chance to meet their potential.
