Ashley Audrain is the best. Great weaving over stories, strong control of her characters and no wasted space on the page. The twist at the end was amazing, I was hooked
where the son has woken up and waits to be alone with his mom, and asks her what will happen when he tells them everything (about what he saw and what she did). I was so scared when she started to manipulate him and suggest that he might have misremembered things because of the coma, that her son might fall for it out of desperation for her attention

Fairly steamy and suspenseful!

I could already tell only 10 pages in that the writing style wasn’t for me

I genuinely don’t know how to rate this. Amazing writing but it’s so damn bleak and unsettling that I question whether I should even recommend it?! Maybe if that’s your cup of tea? Audrain’s debut was similar in tone but this was an entirely new level of disturbing .

Quick thoughts: Liane Moriarty with darker undertones, multiple perspective domestic drama, what it means to be a mother ( the dark and the light side), what it means to be a wife, societal pressures on both

Trigger warnings: pregnancy loss, infidelity
challenging dark mysterious medium-paced
