Incredible. This series has quickly catapulted into my top 3 of all time. I can’t say enough good things about the author, or this story.
I typically don’t take the time to write reviews because I don’t have the confidence to elegantly state what I want to say, but these books have been so good I’m making an exception.
The story, characters, pacing, and world building are all flawless. I read a lot of fantasy; and while it’s true I love most of it, I’m not often blown away like I was with “The Bound and the Broken”. Typically when a story follows multiple POV’s I can lose focus during a less important or less interesting characters sections. That’s not the case here. Every character is relatable - Every storyline is enthralling. The emotions this book put me through made me feel like I was right there living it.
I’m upset with myself for blowing through it, because now I have to wait for book 4. Ryan Cahill has gained himself a fan, and I can’t wait to read more from him.

Took me a long time to finish, but was definitely worth it! Still love the atmosphere of classic epic fantasy but modernised. The action scenes were really top notch, I loved every moment.

As the series continues, the books keep getting longer, yet somehow they feel shorter.
This was the fastest 1400+ page book I've ever read.
There's something incredibly unique about this series. It doesn't FEEL like anything else I've read before. The dragon bond, where the two become one, is particularly special. The depth of the connection, the pain of loss, and how that loss affects the surviving partner adds real gravitas and emotional depth to their partnership. Dragons here aren't just pets—they become part of your very soul.
I absolutely love how the magic system is described, especially the way it involves multiple elements rather than just one, as is so common in fantasy.
While all of this was true in earlier books, it's brought into sharper focus here as we see more of the world and uncover deeper backstories. Facts introduced earlier are cast in a new light as the story progresses. Ryan does an amazing job presenting these early details subtly—details that don't stand out at first but become significant and clear later.
You know a book has me hooked if I'm up at 2 AM yelling at a character for their decisions. Normally, I don't react this way, but with this series, it's impossible not to.
I need this series to continue forever, please.
