There is not much more I can say about this series that I have not already said in my reviews of the previous books in the series. The series just keeps getting better and better! The character growth, world building and vivid battle scenes are all spot on! One of the best classic fantasy series I have ever read and in the the top 5 of all fantasy series I have read!

DID NOT FINISH: 35%

Found the story was just too long. Lots of filler that was unnecessary. Other books I wanted to read.

INSERT CLEVER HEADLINE HERE. I DUNNO GUYS, MY BRAIN EXPLODED.

I was today years old when this officially became my favorite series ever.

Trying to collect myself and provide proper commentary is hurting my brain right now because there’s just SO MUCH I could say.

This was an absolutely MASSIVE chonker of a book.I feel like I went through a journey in this one, single book I might have experienced across a trilogy all its own. And I mean that in a good way, because regardless of the amount of time it took to get through it all I never felt bored. Not once did I wish I could just get to the ‘good part.’

Every single chapter was the ‘good part.’

Dragons have never looked better, I can tell you that much. And including the dragons, there’s such a sprawling cast of incredible, interesting, truly believable and engaging characters that no matter the POV, I was excited. (I still had favorites, but I never dreaded having to read others.)

I don’t know what else I need to say by now. If you’re reading this and haven’t started this series, don’t walk - RUN to get onboard.

Please. You deserve good things. This series is a good thing.

"Of War and Ruin" is an excellent epic fantasy, but I can't give it the full five stars because the first half of the book moved too slowly for me and contained some repetition from "Of Darkness and Light". Once the book kicks into another gear, it's a wild ride to the end that I enjoyed tremendously.

The book features multiple huge battle scenes, one of which is particularly well-written, with shifting points of view that work brilliantly.

Fittingly, the most interesting aspect of the series remains the Bound and the Broken. The strongest parts of the book revolve around the internal struggle the Rakina face with their past and how they can continue living after part of their soul has been ripped from existence. I really enjoy reading points of view from multiple sides of the war. There is no clear distinction between black and white, good and evil. We get to explore the feelings and thoughts of both protagonists and antagonists.

This massive book took me a while to complete but I'm glad I pushed through. I'm excited about the next chapter of this series.
