This is a book about people and how war can change your perceptions of someone. Robert Cormier does not shy away from hard things. If you are looking for happy endings and resolution, his are not the books to read. If you are looking to read about the places people are raw and gritty, messy and painful, his are the books to read.

Second best book I read for my GCSE English Lit and I didn't even read it until the day after my exam. I got an A tho

I had to read this book for my GCSE english, so this review is probably biased.
This is by far the most boring book I've read in my life - the only interesting thing that happened made me really uncomfortable when I read it. Too many flash backs for my liking - I felt like I was jet lagged with the amount of time changes. Also, who doesn't label the date when you flash back? In spent half the chapter wondering which year I was in.
I recommend not reading this book unless you enjoy flash backs, self loathing main characters, and super dodgy children's authority figures.

One of the set texts for school, it's pretty short only 100 or so pages but worth the read.
