I have always enjoyed Nicholas Sparks and The Best of Me was a delight to listen to. I enjoyed Amanda's story and learning about her family. The story of Amanda and Dawson is like any other love story with the boy growing up on the wrong side of the tracks or in Dawson's case just in his last name. How the two loved each other in high school and how they were apart living different lives. That first love is hard to let go of, yet it's something they both have to choose to do whether they want to or not.
The Best of Me is a love story that will leave you in tears and your heart wrenching at the outcome (even though I had guessed it already). Nicholas Sparks is a little like Jodi Picoult sometimes you just aren't sure of how the story will end.

Oh Nicholas Sparks....you always suck me in with an amazing love story....but there is never-I repeat never a happy ending for anybody in your books.
"the heart-rending story of two small-town former high school sweethearts from opposite sides of the tracks. Now middle-aged, they've taken wildly divergent paths, but neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever altered their world. When they are both called back to their hometown for the funeral of the mentor who once gave them shelter, they will be forced to confront the choices each has made, and ask whether love can truly rewrite the past."

As always Nicolas Sparks writes an amazing but tragic love story. Very detailed and the plot is unpredictable. This book provides a roller coaster of emotions and I couldn’t stop reading! Only wish is that the book had a happier ending.

Hrumph. I usually love Nicholas Sparks, but once again, I feel TRICKED! The story was really good, but the ending SUCKED. It did NOT have to end the way it did, he could have still had the story resolve the way it did, but WITHOUT the crappy twist. I won't ruin it for folks who still plan to read it, but COME ON NICHOLAS!
The first half was wildly boring and the end was super predictable, but ultimately it was not a bad time
I was worried when I read the negative reviews but as I sit here with tears in my eyes at 3 a.m. after finishing a book I couldn't put down, I am so glad I didn't pay attention to those reviews. I loved this book. Yes some may say it's one of those "sappy love stories", but a really good one!

I used to LOVE Nicholas Sparks. I have several on my shelf that I have read and reread. But his newest ones have not been the same as the classics. Even the surprise at the end was predictable. I don't want to give up on his books because I have so many that spoke to me, but it's getting hard to want to keep reading them.
