3.5 rounded down. I enjoyed the writing of this book. Elin Hildebrand did an excellent job of making me feel like I was in Nantucket. I liked the format of the story and how it moved along. I never felt bored reading this. This book won’t deter me from reading more of her stuff.

My issue here is how these two (unlikeable) characters never make any real attempt to be together. They just carry on this affair for years. It seems Mallory has serious commitment issues. She has the heart of a good man who wants to marry her and she can’t because she loves Jake. Jake is just Ursula’s willing partner. He never stands up to her. He never leaves her despite clearly not loving her.

A scene that BUGGED the hell out of me was when Mallory got so incredibly upset with Bayer for not telling her he was married and had a child. Like THAT is where she draws the line. Cut to years later when Ursula has a child and Mallory continues the affair. Hyp-o-crite.

This has become my favorite book. The story is flawlessly written, the characters are wonderfully developed, and the ending made me cry. What more could someone ask for? I loved all characters I met, whether they were supposed to be the antagonist or not, and felt connected to the story of Mallory and Jake. Will most definitely be reading more books by Hildebrand in the future.

One of the more entertaining books from this author, enough twists and turns to keep me reading and loved how everything came together in the end.

I enjoyed this book, a lot actually but the storyline of a “Same Time Next Year” I just cannot get behind. Although I was pulling for them to end up together somehow, I find it twisted that I was pulling for an affair to win out. Also, why couldn’t the MMC just grow up and not trap himself in a life he despised? He had plenty of opportunity to get out before there was a child involved. Overall, I liked the book, the plot just wasn’t for me.

A bit slow and an abrupt ending IMO, but still worth the read!
