it was interesting, but some parts felt unnecessary, could have been shorter & achieved the same result. also, the slang language doesn’t seem very genius or interesting if you already know russian & english, so that was kind of a let down in terms of stylistic interest, yet it was certainly a unique reading experience this way. also the 21st chapter - kind of a letdown
esp. on the wife & kids portion, he’s better sure but he still doesn’t see women as people, so by how much?
makes the whole thing fall flat a bit in terms of character development. nonetheless, a semi-worthwhile read, maybe i’ll have a more positive outlook on it on a second read.

Making up your own words does not make your literature good or interesting, just difficult to read.

It takes some time to adjust to the slang, but after you get used to paging through the dictionary at the back it starts to flow better. This is a classic that is worthy of a read. This book was written for shock value, but I think it loses some of it in our current violence hungry world. The slang also makes it less violent, but I think this was done on purpose.
A great thought provoking book. You can really grasp the author's fears and themes. The book can take on a completly different meaning if reading the old American version that was left out the end or the movie which did the same. It's such a shame that the older American versions and the movie left out the full transformation the author intended the character to go through. Make sure to read the full version.
