A high-level overview of US history from a Black and Indigenous perspective and how these two communities have been impacted (in similar and different ways) by settler colonialism, white supremacy, capitalism and other intersecting systems of harm.
While the author provides some insight into the unique lived experience of Afro-Indigenous people in particular, that is not the focus of the book (which I found surprising and may be a missed opportunity?).
What I found most interesting was the author's analysis of the dynamics between Black and Indigenous communities at various points in time, ranging from solidarity and shared struggle to erasure and active complicity in the other's oppression.
