“I’m not completely delusional, right? I know how parasocial relationships work. Watching someone’s videos isn’t the same as actually knowing them. It’s not a real conversation, even if they answer all your unspoken questions. Feeling seen doesn’t mean they actually see you.”
Amelia Applebaum happens to love Walter Holland. She’s not IN LOVE with him though. He’s just her favourite bisexual Youtuber. When he announces a meet-and-greet only a short road trip away she could finally meet her parasocial infatuation in real life. If only she can get all her friends to join. If only they could understand. If only. If only. If only.
I loved how this book explored parasocial relationships. Amelia really went on a journey of discovery with her parasocial infatuation. The book also delved into the dark side of fandoms and how people can become super toxic about their favourites. I liked how the story included snapshots of comments, online posts, and video descriptions in amongst the plot.
The friend group dynamics in this book were a lot of fun. I liked all their strange banter and that they were there for each other all the way. I also have to mention that I loved the little cameos from “Imogen, Obviously.” Imogen and her friends being part of the story was a nice touch and made me so happy.
This is a great one if you want to read about road trips, queer weirdoes and obvious-but-not-so-obvious-to-the-characters realisations, mixed in with some pretty serious internet etiquette discourse.
Finally, a quote that resonated with me:
“I had to be queer, because no straight girl would be this hung up on the question. But then again, I had to be straight. After all, no queer girl would be this unsure of the answer.”

It was a very cute summery romance book that I read in under a day. The characters, their friendships and the banter were well done and very sweet. I especially liked the nicknames that made me laugh at times. I did find that in some parts Amelia, the main character could become a little annoying. However, that was definitely not the whole time. Besides that, the romances throughout the novel were adorable. I liked that the love stories were gradual and that they built up.
The plotline was good: A group of friends goes on a road trip to an event that a youtuber they like is hosting. On the way there, they find out more about themselves and each other.
The book analyses parasocial relationships. I didn’t know what that was before I read this book. The book tried to show that in little exerpts from media appearances and fan messages. I found that they took you out of the story a bit too much, seeing as only a few of them were really necessary or added to the plot, but the idea behind them was good
So overall I thought it was a very sweet and fast-paced book that’s fun to read during summertime, with an added bonus of interesting social commentary.

Imogen, Obviously is one of my favorites, so I was so excited to read this spiritual sequel. While I didn't enjoy it as much as Imogen, it was still wonderful. I really liked the exploration of parasocial relationships and how close you can feel to a celebrity you've never even met. I also loved how she knew she was bi, but she was still very oblivious. The story goes pretty much like you'd expect, but it's a fun read.

I’m so sad. I absolutely loved Imogen, Obviously but Amelia, If Only fell short of my expectations. Amelia felt incredibly immature for an eighteen year old and I found her character rather unlikable. The minor characters — Nat, Zora, Mark, and Walter — felt flat. The entire book felt chaotic and non-sensical. Unfortunately, this just wasn’t for me.
Moderate: Toxic relationship, Outing
Minor: Biphobia
