Jag tyckte tyvärr inte om den här lika mycket som jag ville och som jag trodde jag skulle. Den var okej. Det kanske helt enkelt är att jag är äldre och inte vibar med YA böcker lika mycket längre, eller så är det bara att jag inte tycker om denna lika mycket som jag gjort med hennes tidigare böcker. Det behöver ju då inte betyda att boken är dålig utan att jag kanske inte är målgruppen.
Det var ändå en gullig sapphic bok där tropen är friends to lovers och det är humor och charmiga karaktärer. Det var även lite kul att det var så mycket snack om fandom och kändisar osv, jag och säkert många andra kände verkligen igen mig i det. Dock tycker jag även att det snacket kunde bli lite för mycket ibland. Kul med nostalgi dock. Blandade känslor. Vi följer Amelia som tar en road-trip med hennes kompisar för att träffa Walter, hennes favorit YouTuber. Något jag älskar med boken är hbtq representationen, den tycker jag alltid är väldigt bra skriven i författarens böcker och konversationerna, skämten och vänskapsgruppen känns realistisk vilket jag tycker om. Min favoritdel är dock hur mycket de pratar om Simon & Garfunkel, jag ÄÄÄLSKAR deras musik och att de var med så pass mycket i boken

So, this was only a 3-star read for me, mainly because it just wasn’t for me and not because the book is ‘bad’ (also 3-stars is not actually a bad rating). I used to love YA contemporary romances, they were what really got me into reading in the first place, my tastes have shifted since then and I’ve not read many YA contemporary books for a while. I’d read other Becky Albertalli books before, so I thought I’d give this one a go and find out if I still liked the genre. Turns out, I do not. I am still very fond of YA sci-fi and fantasy, but contemporary/romances are very much not my thing anymore. This was a slog for me to get through, to be quite honest, even though it was a perfectly fine story. There’s noting objectively wrong with it, and if you do enjoy reading this genre you’ll probably like this book. Subjectively, this book would probably be a 1.5 stars for me, but I don’t really feel comfortable rating it anything under 3 stars, because the book isn’t bad, it’s just absolutely not for me.

Loved to see the cameos of Imogen and Tessa in this one! The audiobook narrator was great. I thought this covered the downsides of para social relationships and hardcore fandoms really well. Found Amelia a bit annoying and was more invested in the side characters. Probably a lot better for a younger audience than for a girl in her early 30s... (hence why it is labeled YA lol).

I love several of Becky’s other books and I adored the first book in this series, so I was so looking forward to reading book #2! Unfortunately, I found this one really disappointing. I didn’t find the main character enjoyable. The characters and plot line didn’t draw me in, and the humor felt forced and kind of annoying to read. I read it anyway because I wanted to know what happens. Hoping any future installments are more enjoyable!
