Puns aside I Love the concept of this book. I almost bounced off it at first as I thought it was going to be your standard Cultivator/Leveling Up power fantasy sorta thing. Instead I learned after a chapter or two that Harold aka Bone Daddy aka our main protagonist while powerful is humble and often chooses to take a back seat in fights. This allows weaker side characters to the highlight of the books, while Harold is a dark comic relief character in a world that takes itself much to seriously. In a lot of ways this is a satire of your standard Cultivator/Leveling Up power fantasy, and I found it quite refreshing to have a character that would genuinely prefer to solve problems with words rather than fists.

Dead Tired 2 continues the quirky, undead adventures of Herald the necromancer, his dutiful maid Alex, and the ever-odd limpet, FenFen. True to the spirit of the first book, the sequel doesn’t aim to reinvent itself but leans comfortably into its cozy slice-of-life charm.

The addition of two new characters—both joining as butlers—adds some fresh dynamic to the household without rocking the boat. Their presence fits snugly into the established tone: casual, humorous, and filled with the kind of bad dad jokes that will either make you groan or grin (or both). If you’re here for character development, world-shaking plot twists, or epic battles, this probably isn’t your stop. But if what you want is necromantic domesticity with a side of undead sass, Dead Tired 2 delivers exactly that.

RavensDagger doesn’t stray far from the formula that made the original so charming. The pacing is leisurely, the stakes remain comically low, and the story thrives more on chemistry between characters than on any grand plot progression.
