I know this is supposed to be a classic, but I just couldn’t stand the MC. Also years after actually reading this book, I still hate the word phony because of how much it was over-used. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

DNF. I stopped at about 40%. I liked how easy this was to read, but it became so boring. I kept waiting for things to happen but it seemed like nothing did. I really related to the protagonist's internal monolog (because we've all thought weird stuff at that age), but it just because extremely boring.

I managed to get out of high school without reading this book (or many classics at all). I read it now because my coworker said it was his favorite book. I appreciated the review that said there are those that identify with Holden either because they see themselves in him at an earlier point in their life or because they relate to him now. And there are those who don't relate to Holden at all. I would be in that category. Maybe if I was a 16 year old boy.... or, apparently, my coworker.
