I feel like I read a different book than everyone else?? This was a very SLOW, character-driven mystery and it was beyond confusing. I honestly probably should’ve DNF’d this one, but I wanted to stick it out because everyone seems to love it. Definitely one that I won’t remember.

I loved how quickly the story jumped right into the action and I was hooked for the first third. The middle of the book was much slower than I wanted it to be, but it was still a beautiful story, so I stuck with it. The last third of the book, I could not put it down. This would've been a five star for me if it had been a little bit shorter, or if the pace had remained consistent (either slow all the way through or fast-paced from beginning to end - I don't usually like it when the pacing changes throughout the story). Most of the middle was important to the story, so I don't think it has the same feel if you cut a lot of it out, but I do think that story building in the middle could have been a bit shorter.
Beautiful story, dark and hopeless at the time but so raw and beautiful.
