A book group pick. This is a book that lives up to it's title. I was surprised that the missing girl story lasted so long. The book is so huge and I really thought that aspect would have been concluded earlier. I didn't understand how it could last but the author did that very well. I thought the ending was rather fantastical and would have preferred something a bit more realistic. I found the short chapters both enjoyable and infuriating. Sometimes I need more depth in one sitting otherwise it is too easy to put down. Overall though a great read, Saint and Patch will be characters I think about for a long time. Would read more by this author.

Wow. This book was so completely out of my comfort zone but damn am I glad I gave it a shot. I don’t read thrillers, I don’t read crime, I rarely read what could be described as ‘literary’. I read this book mostly because of the beautiful cover design (UK edition) and because I wanted to do a buddy read with my friend Katie.
I was blown away.
The short, sharp chapters and jumping around between different scenes and characters was initially a bit of a shock to me but before too long I was gripped. Saint won me over almost immediately. Loved her so much throughout. And Patch. What to say about Patch… It’s complicated but the best characters are complicated.
What a captivating story this was, spanning so many years, so many twists and emotions throughout. It made me cry multiple times and had me glued to my Kindle wanting to find out what would happen next. There’s so many things that I didn’t see coming and so many things that upon their reveal seemed to make so much more sense to me. This is the rare kind of book that I want to read all over again, to be able to fully appreciate the intricacies of it all.
I’ve seen snippets of reviews that say this book stayed with them long after reading it and I think it will with me too. It was beautiful, but in such a dark and troubling way. You just have to read it yourself to see what I mean.
Also, this needs to be turned into a TV show. It’s the sort of show I absolutely would not usually watch (too real) but I’d watch this.
