The audiobook was so well done—especially the chilling clicking sound Sila makes. It pulled me deeper into the story and kept me hooked. While the pacing felt a bit drawn out at times and I predicted a few events, that ending twist? Jaw. On. The. Floor.

I absolutely adore the gothic/victorian/dark academia botanist/poisoner/vampire-adjacent vibes!! I read this as soon as it came out and I just listened to the audiobook, which I highly recommend. The narrators for Alina and Silas are so gooood and the addition of his little Vipera clicks is fun. Very unnerving. Cannot wait for the next one!!

The start of this had me gripped - it was so intense! I loved it, rapid introductions to the main characters and the story moved at a fast pace.
However, after 40%ish I think it got slow & overall it lacked a definitive plot. Silas got a little soft for how he started, I get it was the evolution of is obsession but I loved how dark it was at the start - a necklace with her own hair? Loved it.
The setting was unmatched, the dark gothic feel was truly incredible. Also the writing was brilliant - it was so engaging to read.
I’m really interested to see where the rest of the series takes us and how it will evolve.
