I truly don’t know what I thought this book was going to be, but it was literally nothing like I thought the audio alone for this was five stars. This was dark and eerie honestly at times kind of horrific so much of this had my jaw on the floor. Give me book two immediately. I go feral for a man that begs and this mmc was perfect. Ugh I loved this so much!!!!

The plot was enjoyable initially, I was intrigued by the human-vampire relationship in British high society. Alina is a dark apparition of a woman that runs her father's apothecary by day and develops poison to help woman kill abusive men by night. She comes across Silas, a high society lord that does not hide his true nature from their first meeting since he intends to consume her as his next victim. But in their game of cat and mouse, they develop a more complex relationship. The enemies to lovers was hitting until Viktor/Luka. I thought he was just a side character for jealousy/competition but now I'm not sure if he's the villain for their love story or if it's a love triangle. It's my own fault for not realizing this was an ongoing series before picking this up but I also did not realize every thing was going to unravel in the second half of the book. And obviously it ends on a cliffhanger but I'm not sure if I'll continue. I was really rooting for Silas and Alina but Luka's unknown dynamic in their relationship is throwing me off.

Everything was good (⭐⭐⭐⭐/5) till everything after Chapter 45 just ruined it for me. I didn't think the chapter 48 was necessary and Silas not having the balls to really do anything about. Then Luka and Silas both feeding on her was just betrayal and just so disappointing. I love dark romance novels but the last chapters was just sooo gutt renching and awful.

📖The poisoner by I V Ophelia.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️/5
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Gothic Romance and Horror
Blurb
Amidst the gaslit alleys and cobblestone streets of Victorian London, two killers find themselves entangled in a waltz they cannot escape.
Alina Lis, a botanist and hobbyist poisoner, has a pastime of killing unsavory men in her twisted sense of poetic justice. When she targets the conceited playboy, Silas Forbes, only to find him in her apothecary the following week, she discovers human men are the least of her problems.
The pair’s unlikely association sparks gossip among affluent society. As their mysterious bond deepens, a chilling truth emerges—concealed identities, lurking foes, and questions as plentiful as the hydra’s head brew within this haunting Gothic tale of violent passion..
I loved this book! The characters, the story were so good! The audiobook was chef's kiss! The author's ability to weave intricate details into the narrative made the setting come alive, and I found myself completely immersed in the story from start to finish! Can't wait for book 2!

꧁Book Review꧂
The story follows Alina, an apothecary with a side hustle of poisoning cruel and abusive men. When she stumbles upon a creature with sharp teeth, wicked eyes and a sinister clicking emanating from his throat, she is utterly bewitched by her curiosity to know more. But will thirst for knowledge kill the poisoner or will she strike first?
I cannot stress this enough…👏 listen 👏 to 👏 the 👏 audio 👏 I had this down as an eyeball read until I saw a TikTok of the clicking and immediately bought it on audible. It’s creepy, atmospheric and not gonna lie maybe made me feel some typa way 👀 and I loved these narrators. They both did such a good job of building the tension and angst between these two and y’all know I love a dual narration.
With all the Alienist vibes, this had no business being as hot as it was! The scene in the apothecary, under her dress made me blush 😳 and I loved how pathetic he became for any little inch of affection or attention.
•°¯`•• Mini Spoiler Alert! ••´¯°•
However that ending. THAT ENDING?! I am unwell. Silas better Grovel! I mean Grovel with a capital G.
Overall, I am counting down the seconds until the next one is released because I need it yesterday.
