So, Three Act Tragedy starts off strong: a fancy dinner party, thirteen guests, and a sudden death that kicks off a string of murders. Sounds like classic Agatha Christie gold, right? Well… kind of.
Here’s the deal: Hercule Poirot—our beloved detective and supposed star of the show—is barely in it. He pops in at the beginning, takes a very long coffee break (or whatever Hercule Poirot does in his downtime), and only comes back when the story’s nearly over. Honestly, calling this a Hercule Poirot book feels a bit generous.
On top of that, the early murder means we barely get to know the characters before chaos unfolds. And even as the story progresses, the characters stay frustratingly vague, making it hard to care about who did what and why.
If you’re doing a full Hercule Poirot marathon (like me), sure, give it a go. But if you’re just dabbling in Agatha Christie’s world, this one’s skippable. Let’s be real—Hercule Poirot deserves better. So do we.

I really liked this one! I thought the ending was fun. I thought it a bit ridiculous but I think that lends itself to how entertaining this story was. This would be a great beach read!
