When I read other reviews of this book before starting I felt a bit nervous. There were quite a few 2 star ratings but I have never let that stop me before. I do agree there was a lull in the middle of the book. But overall, I did enjoy this read. I found the magic system interesting and liked how there are different types of magic. I did find Ceony a bit annoying. She went from disliking the guy to being in love with him in two seconds. All that being said I will probably continue with this series in the future.
Enjoyed this book. It was a different concept for magicians, but I liked it. I only wish that before she went on her mission the author would have established the two characters relationship a little bit further.

What was most disappointing about Charlie N. Holmberg’s story?
WTH! It's like Charlie Holmberg skipped 50k of character development. I was so confused by Ceony's emotions and arrogance. There was no "adventure". Not really. There was about as much adventure as watching home movies of a random person and "feeling" the feels for that person while watching those movies. Stuff just happened. I had no clue how she ended up where she was or doing what she was doing. Really this story needed more development and character interactions.

Short and Sweet!
I saw other reviews of this book complaining about the lack of detail, but if you pick up a book that is just over 200 pages what can you expect? Of course it isn't going to be another Lord of the Rings.
In my opinion though it was just perfect. I was looking for a short read with a good plot and interesting characters and that's exactly what I got. I love the concept of magic using manmade materials, and can't wait to read the next two installments of the trilogy.
If you're looking for a quick simple read that will keep you hooked as it did me I definitely recommend.

An interesting and rather literal take on a journey of the heart, but definitely a bit too on the nose for my taste. Also just a smidge cheesy and taking the metaphor just a liiiittle too far.
I really enjoyed this book. The setting is great, and the author does a great job of exploring it throughout the novel instead of doing an info dump on the reader in the first chapter. The main character is compelling at first, but the weaker sides of her character do tend to disappear into the heroic archetype as the book goes on. This can be forgiven as most of the book takes place in a short period of time.
I look forward to the next book.

This was an absolute joy. It ramps up very quickly and stays this way but it was enjoyable all the same. It could have used more character building early on as you don't know the main characters well at all and are expected to feel attachment to the story but know very little. Still enjoyed it.
From the very beginning I was thrown into a new world without much pretense and my heart sighed. Would this too be a disappointment? However I was gladly proven wrong. While it didn't give me much to go on at first, the story slowly built upon itself. Albeit very simple, it didn't need to be very dramatic to be charming. I loved the writing style. It delightfully surprised me, working backwards to build a beautiful world of magic I was clueless about the first 10 pages. The excerpt in the back had me itching to read the sequel! I give it 4 stars just because while I loved the plot and the writing style and throughly enjoyed it, I feel
like it could have been very easily broadened and expanded. It's simplicity was just a tad bit lacking. Otherwise wonderful book :)
