A beautiful beautiful book. I have no critiques. So wonderfully written, the descriptive language really paints a picture for you of the evolution of oppression in Afghanistan. A heart wrenching story of strength in the face of violence. I felt every hardship Mariam and Laila faced so intensely. A true 5 star read.

This was a devastating read about Afghanistan. It ends in 2007, the year I graduated from high school.

I am not sure how accurate it is to history or culture in Afghanistan, but I was moved by the story.

The two women that the story follows have lived very hard lives.

Its hard to be hopeful.

I mean of course knew this would be heartbreaking at times but I do think the way this one tries to talk about hope and rebuilding and the importance of a home was strong throughout. I did think the way the two characters are contrasted with the type of love and care they are shown was well developed. A hard read but I do think worth! Solid but did feel like characterization was a bit flat and the end felt forced but overall do recommend !
