I don't like Rimbaud as much as everyone else seems to, but he does have an occasional great line.

This guy is a puzzle. Really liked it. Favorite quote: "I think I’m in hell therefore I am in hell"

first of all- why does no one talk about the racism in this book?

i have never read something so self aware yet so oblivious. i know that im supposed to like it, and while i can understand and appreciate this work for the trailblazing it did for poetry, i find myself rather upset with the praise it gets. his life was interesting but the way that he gets recognized for this "bursting of emotion" that just simply was not there, is crazy to me. the majority of it is sloppily written for people who are to immature to recognize that too much angst enables them. i love a good stream of consciousness read, but not this one.
the perspective of the drunken boat was interesting but not groundbreaking.

that being said they're are some beautifully written parts, but not enough. like most classics, innovative for its respective time period but not much else.

Nope. Tried another set of French poetry and just not for me. Extra star for it clearly being a historic work that’s stood the test of time, but would take quite a bit of money (or a class on how to understand this type of poetry) to convince me to reread this.
