When Tanner's ship is vandalized and he crash-lands on a desert moon, he meets an unusual inhabitant... Cute, fun and sexy. I loved Garcia's take on Denzantalen's race. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see more books set in this universe!

I didn't have the intention of writing a review of this before I was asked for my feedback. I hadn't asked myself why I didn't like the story after reading it, so today I took some time to think about it.

I'm a sci-fi fan, there's not doubt about it, but I don't like everything about the genre; I normally love or hate a story, I didn't hate this, I just didn't respond to it. I like sci-fi to be original and I don't know if the author was trying to pay homage or if the things coming from her imagination reminded me of other concepts I have encountered before. In the following spoiler is what the different concepts reminded me of.
Spoiler There was the talking computer with a sense of humor - [b:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy|11|The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1)|Douglas Adams|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327656754s/11.jpg|3078186]; the alien with tentacles - an alien in Torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures; the animals eating through the circuitry of the spaceship - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; the splicing of the different animal to give a new genus - [b:The Island of Dr. Moreau|29981|The Island of Dr. Moreau|H.G. Wells|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388230211s/29981.jpg|68894]; the spaceship in the sand / eating monster in the air - Doctor Who episode: Planet of the Dead; the prison colony - well, there's some Doctor Who stories (and other times I have seen this idea in writing even though I don't remember a specific book).

The other thing I'm a big fan of is m-m romance, but I like my ms to be actual men so I had difficulty with the whole alien as a part of the couple bit. For a story starring aliens, shifters, vampires to impress me, it has to be exceptional or I just lose interest pretty quick. I also didn't feel chemistry between the characters maybe a longer time before they coupled would have made a difference, but I'm not sure I would have liked this story even if the couple had worked.

What I did like about the story is how it was written. I thought the words were well chosen, the descriptions gave a good idea of the alien world and alien being.

I do think the story just wasn't to my taste, I expect other people would love it very much exactly for the reasons I didn't so I won't say I wouldn't recommend it because if you read this review and thought: "I don't know what she's talking about, I would love a story with these elements" then please do read it because it is probably made for your own tastes.
