Le Coeur

The final book in the Demon Cycle series. I really liked it, it was building up to a great finish, but then it just seemed to peter out at the end. Although I'm still a bit disappointed with the ending I can full heartedly recommend this series!

It’s done. I read the fifth book and finally finished this series. To sum it up, I should have stopped reading after the first book. It really is such a shame I didn’t enjoy the rest of the series as I did with “The Warded Man” but the books simply got worse. The writing style was nice despite all the slang the villagers used. The characters never improved and I watched some of my favorites turn into ones I hated. “The Core” starts out quite boring and has about eight-hundred pages of filler. This series was just not for me and I should have just dropped it.

A lot of brutal things happened. Overall was pretty good though towards the end some storylines were neglected and it kind of had a happy ever after ending.

An okay conclusion to the series. There were parts where the story got in its own way in the early to mid point of the book but after that it started to flow well.

It was alright. Beer than the last two. Not as good as the first two. Mostly because it finally spent more time on the story rather . . . other things that I cannot write in my PG review.
adventurous dark emotional tense fast-paced

Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I think that overall this was a good series, but I did think it went on a bit longer than it had to. Also the vernacular used by the characters started annoying me after a while.

Loved this series from start to finish

A very nice conclusion to the series. It's a little bit predictable, but the likable characters and the gruesome-but-fascinating magic system make it very enjoyable.

So, after all that blood and betrayal and ridiculous buildup, the end was a bit of a fizzer. This book tried to build up to a big finish, but it never really delivered, and the ending is really quite poor. There was an attempt to involve all the characters from the past books, but unless you had reread the entire series in preparation (I only reread book 4) it was pretty hard to care. It was easy enough to read, but no more please, hints at future works will be ignored.
