what in the wattpad fanfic did i js read 😭 can’t even hate bc i read it to scratch a lil itch i had..

also
there’s no way ZACH is a top sorry

kinda preachy, the parts where they tried to be progressive but ended up coming across very surface level and then never went into it again (ex. when there’s a random paragraph about Catholicism and being gay and it’s so shallow bc they’re just like ā€œJon and Ruben went into a DEEP discussion about it and came to an understanding! He’s such an ally!ā€šŸ˜šŸ˜) remind me of ā€œThe Impossible Vastness of Usā€ (which was worse than this)

I thought this was charming and such a fun idea! I really enjoyed it but left the story feeling some plot points went unresolved, particularly in relation to the mothers. Ruben never fully confronted the tension with his mother which felt like a let down! And Zach's mothers comment about him being "like his father" was a conversation that needed to happen.

Gay/bi-discovery YA boyband romance with some serious subplots about addiction, industry abuse, and self-discovery.

I appreciated that, as a YA romance, the two 18-year-old protagonists were still clearly teens. As such, there was some messy-ness, insecurities, not acting mature and making mistakes. The way all of that was resolved was very impressive for the characters' age, to be honest, though I still enjoyed it.

What I enjoyed most about the book was the friendship between the boyband members. Even outside of Ruben and Zack's romance, the friendship between those two and Angel and John was wonderful. Their support and care was tangible the entire time, even when they were fighting, and I loved that they also tell each other "I love you"s.

While the romance of course was a central aspect of the book, the bigger plot around the band's tour and their (mis)management could get quite tense at times. There were one or two moments that were really hard to read. The relationship to the boys' parents were also quite stressful, and not always resolved.

There was a happy ending, and overall this was a fun read. Fans of boyband romance will definitely get their fill with this.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

It was cheesy and sweet and refreshing and I loved it. I especially loved that there was no relationship drama and that the boys stuck by each other’s sides throughout the book (mostly). It’s a sweet teen romance and I’m glad I got to read it during Pride

At first glanced it looked a 1D fan’s Larry fan fiction made into a published book. Kinda like 50 Shade of Gray. BUT IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT ALL.

Ruben and Zach are two member of one of the world’s biggest boy band and trying to figure themselves out while always being controlled by their label.

While obviously this is a contemporary romance the main theme of the story was standing up for yourself and friends even if it means losing something you worked really hard for. Being true to who you are is more important than the persona given to you. I found the exploration of how controlled a celebrities’ life so heart breaking, it reminded me of Britney and all the stories of KPOP stars.

I think my major strive with the story was the ending being so open ended. But I understand why it was done that way…I just wanted the boys to be happy okay?
