If you are a gamer and struggle with goal setting or maybe have ADHD and struggle with focus, this book has some practical ways to make your tasks fun.
This book had a lot of amazing ideas. Even outside of the whole premise of the book, there were all these tiny little nuggets of information about the human psyche that I never knew! Even if you aren’t ready to dive into the game, there’s a lot of great tips in here.
Why not 5 stars? Because I don’t know how to play the game. Those were some dots I couldn’t seem to connect while reading. I understand each component, but I don’t see the finished product.

Good book, great strategies for self improvement. However not a fan of how it seemed to stretch on at times, which is why I didn't give give stars, but all in all, a great and encouraging book. Especially amazing all the science and research put into this book, by which I was particularly amazed.
I like the idea of this book and the science of games can really inspire one to gain self efficacy -especially is the avatar looks like the person playing. Didn’t finish because for repetitive.
An engaging framework for individual success supported by fairly compelling research. It's certainly encouraging me to invite others to play together, but I'm struggling to implement McGonigal's "gamefulness" techniques in other areas of my life.
Perhaps the book is best viewed as an explanation for the website, because I feel as though Superbetter is a game that needs more mnemonic [visual, and kinesthetic] materials than I got from the audiobook.
Nothing offensive or false, and full of novel concepts throughout.

SuperBetter is a solid self-help resource, but I feel that McGonigal's claim that SuperBetter is a 'game' is at least a little misleading. SuperBetter is a grab-bag of popular psychology strategies (mindfulness, self-care, setting small goals, building social support) with a veneer of gamification (such as calling goals 'quests' and triggers 'bad guys').
Most of the book is a manual, and McGonigal is an engaging guide. I also appreciated the references to research throughout, particularly in the opening section of the book that focuses on studies on the potential benefits of gaming. Speaking of research, I'm not sure why information on the SuperBetter clinical trial was hideen at the very end of the book in what is essentially an appendix rather than integrated in a much earlier section of the book.
All things considered SuperBetter succeeds as a popular psychology guide to self-help with a gameful sugar-coating (once I accepted it for what it was).

This book was recommended by a colleague several years ago, but I'm just now coming around to the brilliance that is SuperBetter. I can't even imagine where I would be if I had read this when it was first published, but maybe this is just the right time. I am excited and energized and ready to take on making myself SuperBetter. If you are interested in joining with me, I would love to talk more. For now, I'm still working on some of the initial quests, identifying my villains, deciding on my secret name, but I will be ready for some epic wins soon.
read for my dissertation, hence the lack of star rating!
This book is really two disconnected pieces. The first section is all about how games, particularly video games, can enhance your life. This is the part I really like. The second part is the game the author invented to implement psychological research on resilience. Related, but different. This part was just okay for me.
