Starting off this book in the middle of a reading slump and it surely healed my slump. From how i see it, the main theme being raised in the novel is human cowardice. All of the characters here are cowards, however, that cowardice act is also what makes them humane (except for someone who’s just an asshole).

Juhea Kim cruelly writes a beautiful novel whereas the heroine is fated to go through miseries and pain all throughout their life, while the villain is thriving due to their ambition and cold nature.

While the writing is poetic and beautifully done, the pessimistic approach to the plotlines are one of the reason as to me not giving it a 4 star rate.

I really enjoyed it, but the handling of sexual violence vs. romantic sexuality really put me off.

This book was beautifully written. The story and characters were captivating and it really tugged at my heart strings. However, there is a lot of detail and introduction of characters who simply aren’t relevant to the plot. I wish it followed only 2-3 characters and stayed more focus. It really differed from the synopsis, but not entirely in a bad way. I think the historical aspects were much much stronger than the romance or relationships, but nonetheless I highly recommend this book. One of my top reads so far.
