Anticlimactic, uneventful, and repetitive, with lackluster characters, this rendition of Ariadne and her sister Phaedra's story (primarily after settling down with their respective husbands) didn't spark any interest or emotion for me. No! Why have a retelling where the woman don't have the power or a happy ending?
I really hoped to love this book and to be honest I liked it. I wouldn’t re-read it or recommend it to someone as their first mythological fiction simply because it was very difficult for me to stay engaged in the plot and it seemed to be very slow despite the action spanning over decades.
The plot was good and Ariadne was a fantastic character. She is smart and fierce, yet sometimes I felt like those traits were diminished in a very uncharacteristic way.

it’s an okay book. there’s a point where greek retellings are tricky to write — how do you keep the original myth alive and true while creating a story with modern ideals and a modern audience? jennifer saint does a good job trying to balance classic with modern ideals; still, i wanted a little more, idk what, just something more. it was missing something
